In a Perry chemical scrubber the contaminated air stream travels through a packed bed. Recirculation pumps remove the scrubbing solution from the sump and returns it to the spray headers. The spray headers are designed to provide an even flow of scrubbing solution over the packed bed. The scrubbing solution wets the packing surface where it contacts and neutralizes the pollutants. The scrubbing solution returns to the sump for recirculation. As the scrubbing solution is used the integrated monitors detect the lower levels and signal the chemical feed pumps to turn on and add additional scrubbing chemical. As the air exits the packed bed it travels through a mist eliminator which removes the droplets from the air stream.
